5 TAMIL BOOKS TURNED INTO MOVIES

K-Town witnessed many films based on novels. Here we showcase some of those novel turned movies.

Aalavandhan 

Aalavandhan, a psychological thriller directed by Suresh Krissna released on 16 November 2001 starring Kamal Hassan is based on a novel named ‘Dhayam’ written by Kamal Haasan. Quentin Tarantino was inspired by the animated violence shown in the film that he used for his own film Kill Bill.

Asuran 

The 2019 National Film Award-winning film Asuran directed by Vetrimaaran is based on the novel Vekkai written by Poomani. This film received got positive response from every nook & corner. Asuran was  a blockbuster hit at the box office. 

Visaranai 

Visaranai, directed by Vetri Maaran released on February 2016 was based on the novel ' Lockup ' written by Mu. Chandrakumar. This film was first premiered at the 72nd Venice Film Festival and won the Amnesty International Italia Award. It also received 3 National Film Awards. Visaranai was successful at the box office. Visaranai was sent to the Oscars from India under the category of Best Foreign Language Film but however, the film didn't make it to the nominations.

Aravaan

Aravaan, historical period film starring Aadhi, Pasupathy, Dhansika, and Archana Kavi, directed by the acclaimed Vasantha Balan released on 2012 was based on one of the stories from the 2008 anthology novel Kaaval Kootam written by Su Venkatesan. The film received a rave response from the audience and critics but was commercially a failure.

Thillana Mohanambal

Thillana Mohanambal, starring Sivaji Ganesan, Padmini, and T. S. Balaiah, directed by A. P. Nagarajan was based on a novel with the same name as the film. The film received critical acclaim and was a blockbuster hit.
