Squid Game (Ojing-eo Geim) is a South Korean survival drama television series streaming on Netflix. It was written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk.
In Squid Game, a group of 456 people, in debt and desperate, are lured into a bloodthirsty survival game where they have the chance to walk away with 45.6 billion Korean won (₹290 Crores) if they win a series of six games.
Squid Game shows how capitalism and authoritarianism dehumanize the people. The emotional connect between each and every lead characters' is shown in a way that we can easily connect with them. The production design is simply amazing, you can feel the grandeur in each and every episode.
Yes, It is similar to Alice in Borderland but the drama between the characters from different backgrounds makes this distinct.
In the second episode,Instead of jumping into the crazy games portion the creators' decides to show more of the players' personal troubles and circumstances, family and personal life, it’s not a flashback like other films or series would do, they literally decided to go back to their lives to show that they can’t go on with all their miseries.
Then they decides to comeback to the freaking island. It shows how desperte these people are. This is just an example of how Squid Game is different from other shows.
The acting, Games, Music and Cinematography, everything is very intense. Especially the tug of war game in episode 4 is one of the most intense scenes i have ever seen. The editing in this show is just out of the world. The fast cuts elevated the excitement during many of the game sequences.
Overall, Squid Game is a neat survival thriller that everyone should watch atleast once. It has some flaws here and there but you won't be disappointed.
